Hosting a party around your hot tub can be a lot of fun, and by doing a bit of planning ahead of time, you can make the event even more enjoyable for you and your guests.
Here are a few things to consider as you prepare:
Guests - As you put together the guest list, keep in mind the size of your hot tub and how many people will have to be sitting out at any given time. If it’s going to be chilly outside, this can be a very important factor to consider. Also take into account the personalities of the various friends you’re inviting. You want all of your guests to have a good time and feel comfortable, so try to invite people who will get along and mesh well together.
Music - It’s important to have some background music playing, and variety is always a plus. You might want to start with something more upbeat to get people in a party mood, then switch to more mellow tunes to help your guests relax as the night goes on.
Decorations - These are completely optional, but if you enjoy decorating, it can really add a festive touch if you put up some streamers, balloons, or even just some items you may already have on hand, such as candles, tiki torches, or tropical plants. If you’re crafty, you can even make some party favors.
Food - Think light, healthy, small portions, with nothing too heavy or filling. The high temperatures of the spa can add to that discomfort of being overly full, and the last thing you want is for your guests to feel bloated and uncomfortable.
Drinks - Stripping down to a swimsuit and then sitting in close proximity to others can be a rather intimate experience. Particularly if guests don’t already know each other well, a few drinks can help people relax and feel more comfortable. Be sure to use plastic cups so you don’t have to worry about glass around the hot tub. Of course, don’t forget non-alcoholic beverages for non-drinkers and designated drivers. And have plenty of water on hand to keep your guests from becoming dehydrated.
The day of the party, make sure everything is in order ahead of time and that you have all the supplies you need. Remember to start heating the tub ahead of time so it will be nice and hot when your first guests arrive. Put out all the extra towels you can find, and try to have everything in place before everyone shows up. Put food and drinks where your guests can help themselves, so that you, too, can kick back and enjoy your own party!
